From Music to Baking

In 2022 Kevin enjoyed being chosen as a contestant on hugely acclaimed TV show ‘The Great British Bake Off,’ consistently delighting the judges with his creative bakes which always hit the mark on flavour.

In particular, his final bake consisting of a honey, thyme, and bay custard, studded with fresh nectarine and raspberries, left a lasting impression. Judge Paul Hollywood said, “the flavours were essentially the best in the tent,” while fellow judge Prue Leith added, “That custard is just extraordinary. That custard will remain with me for the rest of my life – I’m going to go home and do it – I think he’s invented something wonderful.” 

His fantastic engaging personality shone through, sharing with the world a super sense of humour, those trademark facial expressions, alongside true passion for flexing his creative muscles through baking and cooking.

Kevin has been baking since he was 17, where books and magazines had always been his window to the world of baking. He counts Nigel Slater, James Martin, and Yotam Ottolenghi among his literary inspirations and communicates that same affection for seasonal ingredients and craftsmanship in his own work.

Music has always been a very major part of his life, in addition to teaching music in schools all over the West of Scotland, Kevin has worked with organisations such as Sistema Scotland, the Scottish Association of Music Educators, and the Scottish Qualifications Authority in his capacity as an experienced educator.

As a versatile musician playing saxophone, flute, clarinet, and piano, Kevin is in demand as a woodwind doubler in musical theatre and regularly performs with various orchestras and function bands in a variety of genres and live settings.
